Keep The Checkout And Label Steps Clear
Shipping rules depend on product category, destination, and source. A cart can have a firearm shipping from Lipsey's, an optic from RSR, and ammunition from local stock, each with a different origin and restriction. MFS Exchange keeps checkout rule calculation separate from the staff task of buying and printing a label.
Group The Order By Source And Class
- Distributor-aware grouping — the cart automatically segments items by source (local, RSR, Lipsey's, Davidson's, etc.) and calculates shipping per group, since each ships from a different origin.
- Category-based shipping rates per group — firearms ship differently than ammo, which ships differently than optics or accessories.
- First-item / additional-item pricing — flat rate for the first qualifying item plus a smaller add-on rate for each additional unit.
- Class-based shipping methods per category combine class type with the destination state for the right outcome.
- Per-product controls — a free-shipping flag and a product class that sets class fees, so edge cases don't break the bulk rules.
- Weight-based rates — a weight table with your own bands for each service, like Ground and Express, with an optional local-items-only mode and category exclusions.
- Free shipping threshold (optional) — when free shipping applies, flat rates step aside, and the cart shows how much more qualifies.
- Pickup-only local items (optional) — carts with in-store items can be limited to local pickup, and a ships-from badge shows each line’s origin at checkout.
- Package protection (optional) — a shipping guarantee fee customers can choose at checkout.
Staff Rate Shopping And Label Purchase
EasyPost provides staff quote and label actions for configured carrier accounts. Customer checkout uses MFS shipping methods, the rule engine or the weight table, so its rates and restrictions come from the zones, classes, sources, and product settings your shop has chosen.
- Staff quote actions for reviewing available configured carrier services before buying a label.
- One-click label purchase for the carrier and service selected by staff, with printing from MFS Exchange. Each label is bought exactly once, even if the connection drops, and the destination is checked first.
- Layaway-aware labels — labels are refused on layaway installment orders and staff are pointed to the merchandise order.
- Shipment history with full label counts and postage totals.
- Tracking details are passed to Advanced Shipment Tracking, free or Pro, for customer and staff follow-up, shipped POS orders send the completed-order email with tracking, and orders can move forward automatically when distributor tracking arrives.
- Ship from the register — the POS can ship any sale to an address or an FFL found by ZIP code.
- Bring your own carrier accounts — your negotiated rates and account terms remain with the carrier.
USPS 1508 And State Restrictions
- USPS Form 1508 prefilled from order data for firearms shipments — your shop’s details, the recipient’s name and address, and the date — ready to sign by hand.
- State exclusion lists for firearms shipping — block specific states from receiving firearms at the cart level.
- Separate state exclusions for non-firearm products (ammo, magazines, etc.) — California, New York, and other state-specific rules apply differently to different product types.
- California Prop 65 warnings configurable per product or manufacturer on product pages.
- FFL shipping guard (optional) — stops checkout from pairing another dealer’s FFL with store pickup, or your own FFL with shipping.
- Automatic FFL requirement detection per product so the cart flow knows when an FFL transfer is involved.
